Halstead Dragon Basketball had two big weeks in a row with boys basketball placing 8th in the Rupp Tournament and girls basketball placing 6th in the Wildcat Classic.

As winter sports hits its half way mark, both the girls and boys basketball teams look to improve their execution. The boys tournament didn't go as planned, as they averaged 24 turnovers a game and couldn’t keep the ball in their possession for a long enough period to score. During practice last week they worked on moving the ball around, recognizing better passes, and limiting turnovers according to head coach, Chris Santoya.

Lady Dragon basketball started off their tournament losing to the #4 team in 3A, the Cheney Cardinals. The Cardinals went on to take first. The Dragons went on to beat Rose Hill in the semi-finals and fall short to Valley Center in the 5th place game. “During tournament week we improved as a team. Even though we were worn out we still did well in our games. I’m excited for the second half of the season and hope we do well as we finish the season,” said senior Leah Weber.

The Dragons play Nickerson @ Home on Tuesday, February 1st. JV starts at 4:30.
