The Halstead Dragon Volleyball team started off their season traveling to Pratt for the Pre-Season CKL Tournament. The dragons began their long day with pool play: playing Lyons, Hillsboro, Haven, and Hesston.

Driving an hour and a half to play in an un-air conditioned gym is hard for anyone, but the dragons persevered to get 2nd in their pool and go to the A/C filled gym to be in the top of the bracket. Defeating Lyons, Haven, Hesston, and dropping 2 sets, to 2A runner-up, Hillsboro.

To start bracket play the Dragons played the, third place 3A State 2022, Smoky Valley. Taking the 2nd seat into extra points the girls still fell short but look forward to playing the Vikings in the regular season. Playing 3 sets is another thing the Dragons did well on Saturday, taking Pratt to 3 for the 3rd place match and coming out on top. “The atmosphere is amazing. Extremely family like and really positive. Everyone is pushing each other to be the best they can be and everyone has the same goal of wining,” senior Pyper Dunn says about the excitement of this season.

Lyons: 25-9, 25-19

Hillsboro: 11-25, 13-25

Haven: 25-20, 22-25, 25-9

Hesston: 25-21, 16-25, 25-23

Smoky Valley: 16-25, 26-28

Pratt: 25-14, 21-25, 25-15

Tuesday, August 30 was another long night for the volleyball team. Starting at 4 and not getting home till 11 was all worth it after going 4-0 as a whole team. “It was difficult to play so late since it was past my bedtime,” Senior Clara Myers jokes about playing late at Burrton. “I was sore from the weekend, but we did what he had to do to win,” Myers adds about having two big game days so close together.

Halstead Volleyball will play @ Pratt on Tuesday, September 6 vs. Pratt (5) and Kingman (6). The Dragons first home game is Thursday, 8 vs. Wichita Trinity and Conway Springs.
