Good Weather Brings Great Competition

Track & Field:

Finally a warm day for a track meet at the Vernon Ferguson (Cheney) Invatational. The girls 4 x 800m team set a new school record with a time of 9:59.53. The girls on this team include: Kaleigh O' Brien (SO), Elena Flask (JR), Dominique Schutte (FR), Parker Schroeder (SR). O'Brien and Schutte both took home golds in their events as well. O'Brien (1st) ran a 61. 2 in the open 400m and Schutte (1st) ran a 5:23. 09 in the 1600m run.

Kaleigh O'Brien: 400m (1st)

Softball:

Halstead's softball team goes 4-0 through the weekend. April 30th the Dragons played Nickerson, 16-1, 22-7. Payton Divine was the star hitter for the night with a GRAND SLAM! Divine (JR), also had six RBI's. In game one, Rylee Carmichael (FR) only allowed one (unearned) run on the night. In game two Mya Morris (FR) and Emma Boese pitched for the Dragons.


Halstead softball started May off with a win in their double-header vs. Larned. The Dragons only allowed one run in game 1 and zero runs in game two. The only pitchers of the night were Rylee Carmichael and Emma Boese. Head coach Eileen Vlamis said, “Our defense had another solid day with minimal errors, and had momentum the entire day.” The scores of this double header: 16-1, 15-0.

"Our defence stepped up and backed our pitchers up even with trying people out in new positions. Since we had limited errors, we were really able to focus on our offense and put hard hit balls in play, " head coach Eileen Vlamis.





Baseball:

The Halstead Dragon Baseball team are 8-4 in CKL games. The pitchers of the night vs. Nickerson, were Kaleb Wise (SO) and Jackson Swift (JR). Together they struck out a total of 11 batters. Adler Davidson battled well with 4 RBI's ! The boys won 13-3, 16-1.


The Dragons played Larned at home 10-11, 2-5. The leading hitters were Kaden Hill (SR) and Kaleb Wise (SO) with 4 hits each. Chandler Drake allowed his first earned runs of the year when he picthed seven innings against the Indians.
