Halstead Track Finds Success at the 50th Annual Conrad Nightingale Track Meet

Finally a good day for a track meet! 🥶🤷‍♀️It has been cold and rainy this track season, but the weather at the Conrad Track meet gave a good opportunity for athletes to perform their best so far this season.

The girls 4 x 800 meter relay featured three of the top teams in the area, Halstead, Smoky Valley, and Berean Academy. The Halstead girls team of Kaleigh O'Brien(SO), Leah Weber(JR), Dominique Schutte(FR), and Parker Schroeder(SR) won the race, beating out Smoky Valley, with a time of 10:15.92, and crushed their own season best by 14 seconds.

On the field side of this track meet Doug Grider(SR) launched a 53-04.75 to finish in 1st place, beating 30 other competitors in the shot put. Doug's season best is a school record, 53-07.00. In the discus Grider threw a 147-06 to place first, giving him two golds for the track meet.

The girl's 1600 meter race was split into two heats and consisted of 23 girls. Freshman Dominique Schutte came out on top running a personal best of 5:35.96.

The girls 4 x 400 meter race, once again, came in between Halstead and Smoky Valley. The gold medal winner of the race was Halstead's team which consisted of Karenna Gerber (SR), Schutte, O'Brien, and Schroeder. The relays winning time, also Halstead's season best, 4:18.42.

"I thought our kids competed very well. We had a lot of great performances on the night and multiple gold medals at a very competitive meet," said head coach Jason Grider.
